With Wahab Riaz injured, and the pitch fast paced, Pakistan chose their 3 remaining fit Fast bowlers, giving a suprise recall to the much maligned Mohammad Sami.
Ifitkhar Ahmed was the other change, coming in at number 7 in the allrounder role in place of Mohammad Nawaz to strengthen the batting but provide spin support for Hafeez and Yasir.
After scores of 0,0,0 and 4 in the tour matches, and little of note with the ball, Iftikhar's inclusion was another suprise.
India made a few changes, replacing the injured Rahane with Rohit Sharma at number 5, replacing out of form opener Dhawan with Rahul, and bringing in Jayant Yadav for a debut in place of Mishra.
With the wicket fast paced, they also made a desperate call to back to India on the eve of the match to Varun Aaron, feeling they needed his genuine Fast bowling on this pitch, and flying him in the night before the game started.
He will open the bowling with Kumar, with India again starting favourites for this match, with Pakistan again weakened by injury.
Losing Wahab seemed a major blow for the home side on this pitch, with it ideally suited to his type of bowling.

This match was a good contest for the first 2 days, but India pulled ahead on an improving pitch, amassing a big second innings score, to set Pakistan what would have been a world record run chase.
Good bowling by the Indian spinners saw Pakistan slump to defeat.
Rahat bowled well early in India's first innings, bowling 3 batsmen in an inspired spell, and with Yasir and Hafeez backing him up, India were all out shortly after Tea for 209.
Babar Azam scored 89 for Pakistan in reply, but good swing bowling by Kumar with 6 wickets restricted the home team to a 51 run lead.
Pujara set things up in the 2nd innings, though the others also found run scoring easy on a pitch that flattened out and was best for batting on Day 3.
Jadeja took 6 wickets to send Pakistan to defeat, but Man of the Match was Pujara, for top scoring in both Indian innings, his 2nd innings century putting the visitors in control.

Pakistan v India - 1st Test 2016 - Peshawar
Set 502 to win in 5 sessions, Pakistan occasionally looked comfortable with the bat 2nd time round, but again batsmen made starts before giving it away, and in the end they slumped to defeat by a huge margin.
Jadeja bowled well to take 6 wickets, but it was only really a matter of time on a wearing pitch and Pakistan never looked like winning.
India win by 265 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series, while Man of the Match was Pujara for top scoring in both Indian innings including a 2nd innings hundred.

Pakistan v India - 1st Test 2016 - Peshawar
India had little trouble in amassing a huge score in their second innings, setting Pakistan a world record chase of 502 in a little over 5 sessions.
Pujara lead the way with a hundred, while Rahane returned to form and most of the others found run scoring easy.
Pakistan bowled poorly, especially to the tail, and the thought it might be a long series for them is setting in.

Pakistan v India - 1st Test 2016 - Peshawar
Pakistan never really got on top in their reply though they did have the satisfaction of taking a 51 run 1st innings lead.
Babar Azam lead the way with a patient 89, perhaps revealing himself as the future of Pakistani batting when experienced pair Misbah and Younis retire.
Bhuveshnar Kumar bowled superbly on a pitch offering him nothing, his swing making him dangerous even when pitch conditions were against him.
Kumar finished with 6 wickets to keep India firmly in the game, and with the pitch flattening out they will have hopes of a better 2nd innings effort.

Toss: India
India won the toss, and though the pitch would be best for batting on Day 2 and probably early Day 3, elected to bat first, knowing the pitch would be very difficult to chase on on the final day.
None of the batsmen grabbed the opportunity, as first Rahat, and later the spinners worked their way through the order.
Rahat yorked Dhawan, bowled Vijay with an inswinger, then yorked Kohli, to claim 3 wickets in an excellent opening spell.
Yasir Shah kept the pressure on with 3 wickets of his own, before Hafeez ran through the tail to see India all out for 209.
Pujara top scored with 37 as none of the Indian batsmen reached 50, leaving Pakistan on top late on Day 1.

Pakistan v India - 1st Test 2016 - Peshawar
Pitch: 80 - Clay coloured strip, dry and very dusty. Should play fairly easily although the bounce may be rather low. Late in the game the pitch may begin to assist the spinners.

Injuries:
Pakistan:

Pakistan XI:

Pakistan named a makeshift lineup because of injury, with Babar Azam coming in at number 3 to make his debut in place of Asad Shafiq, and allrounder Mohammad Nawaz as a like for like replacement for left arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar.
With the reserve openers form unimpressive in the tour matches Azhar Ali moves up to open.
Ehsan Adil is probably the major surprise, named ahead of a few others for his ability to find swing, something that might prove valuable when the pitch flattens out.
India named a predictable lineup, with Rahane retaining his place despite a pair in the tour match, and Mishra making the side in place of a 6th batsman.
India appear favourites judging by their bowlers form on tour so far, but experienced batsmen Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq should ensure a tight contest.
